Panayiota Petrou, Israel

Dr. Petrou was born in Limassol, Cyprus, and she completed her Medical Degree at the Aristotle University of Thesssaloniki (Greece) Medical School. She completed her specialization in Neurology and received the Board Certification in Neurology in Israel with excellence, and the Board in the European Union. Dr. Petrou has been at Hadassah since 2007 and is today a Senior consultant Neurologist at Hadassah and a senior member of the board of the Unit of Neuroimmunology and MS Center at Hadassah HMO. She has been the co-PI and Clinical Coordinator in the pivotal stem cell trials in MS and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Dr. Petrou has published numerous papers in leading journals such as the JAMA, European Journal of Neurology. She was awarded the Best publication of the year, by the Israel Neurological Association in 2016 for her publication “Safety and clinical effects of mesenchymal stem cells secreting neurotrophic factors transplantation in patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis”. Dr. Petrou is actively involved as the Co-PI and Clinical Coordinator of several Research studies at Hadassah including the recently completed trial with stem cells in MS. She has served as chairperson in Israel and International meetings and has given several invited lectures in International forums in the field of Neurology and Neuroimmunology.
